Members of the LaSalle Fire Service climbed over 50 flights of stairs in full gear with students from St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Secondary School to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Students were asked to reflect on the sacrifices first responders made that day and all the people who lost their lives.
"They had unbelievable courage. It's actually crazy how they can, without a second thought, they run into a building that's on fire trying to save as many people as they can, knowing that they might not come out of it," said Daniel Chisesi, Grade 11 student.
LaSalle firefighter Stephanie Dufour was only four when the attacks happened. But she said its important for her to keep the memory for those who come after her.
"I was quite young, and reviewing history and events that moulded the world as it is now is really important; that way we commemorate and honour the people who are still feeling the effects of the events of 9/11," said Dufour.
Nearly 3,000 people died during the terrorist attacks, 343 of whom were firefighters.
