Two Chatham-Kent (CK) police officers are being rewarded for saving two lives during separate incidents.
On May 3, 2026, Constable Cole Brigley responded to a home where a two-month-old baby was unconscious and not breathing.
He immediately began CPR and provided rescue breaths, which helped the baby regain consciousness and start breathing on its own.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and brought the baby and the mother to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. After being treated at the London children's hospital, the baby made a full recovery.
Brigley is set to receive a commendation at the CK Police Board's next meeting on September 16, 2026. He'll be joined by Emergency Communications Operator Abigail Case, as she's also being recognized for putting the call out to nearby police officers who were closer to the home than paramedics.
The next incident happened on June 1, 2026, involving Constable Justin Christian.
He was responding to an emergency call when he was confronted by a man suffering from a severe cut on his arm.
According to police, an acquaintance of the man had stabbed him, resulting in the accused being charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Christian was able to calm the man down before applying a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding.
The man was later treated by paramedics and survived, mainly due to Christian's actions.
He too will be recognized at next week's meeting.
