Former school, vacant property in Chatham could soon get revamped

A couple of developers are asking the municipality to rezone their properties to allow more housing units to be built.

If the rezonings are approved by council on Monday night, the former Victoria Park Public School at 215 Murray Street in Chatham would be converted into a 31-unit apartment building.

The applicant also said the site has long-term potential to accommodate future medium density residential development.

A new three-storey, 10-unit building would also be constructed on vacant property at 178 William Street South in Chatham at Duluth Street if the application is approved.

The proposal is for six three-bedroom units, three two-bedroom units, and one studio apartment.
