SIU terminates sexual assault investigation involving CK police

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has terminated an investigation into sexual assault allegations against Chatham-Kent (CK) police because the complainant was uncooperative.

The SIU told CK News Today the investigation was terminated on Tuesday because the complainant refused several SIU requests for an interview, leading to a lack of evidence.

"Despite multiple attempts, the SIU was unable to arrange and conduct an interview with the complainant. In the absence of a fulsome statement from the complainant, there was insufficient evidentiary foundation to proceed with an investigation," said SIU Communications Coordinator Kristy Denette.

Denette said information regarding the circumstances is limited or not available because the SIU was unable to interview the complainant.

Denette noted that "every consideration" will be given to reopening the file should the complainant decide to come forward in the future.

The SIU was notified by CK police of the sexual assault allegations on September 8, 2025 and began investigating.

CK police remain under investigation in three other cases, including another sexual assault allegation in September and two custody injuries in October and November.
