COVID-19 outbreak declared at Riverview Gardens in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit (CKPHU) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on Unit 6 West at Riverview Gardens Long-Term Care home in Chatham.

The health unit said residents are not permitted to leave the unit unless it’s for a medical or essential reason.

Surgical masks provided at each entrance must be worn at all times on this unit, according to the CKPHU.

Public health officials say visitors should postpone all non-essential visits to this unit, and if they must visit the unit, they must not visit more than one resident.

"If you are visiting a resident who is isolated or ill, you must wear full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before entering, and once exiting, you must remove the PPE," noted CKPHU. "Hand hygiene is critical before entering and when leaving the unit."

Activities will continue on this unit for non-ill residents, said CK Public Health, and residents are encouraged to wear a mask.

Residents residing on other units cannot attend activities on the affected unit.

CK Public Health is reminding the public not to visit Riverview Gardens if they are sick and to practice good hand hygiene if they are visiting.
