Despite a grey, wet day, hundreds turned out over the weekend in an annual celebration of a Canadian hero's legacy.
Organizers of Sunday morning's Terry Fox Run in Tecumseh say 540 runners showed up to race and raise money for cancer research. The annual run raised over $90,000.
The race began and ended at the Cada Branch Library, just down the street from St. Clair Beach Optimist Park, the usual start-finish point. It was unavailable this year due to construction.
The race included a two-kilometre, five-kilometre, and 10-kilometre run. Runners who followed the shorter path went on a loop that included Edgewater Boulevard, Hayes Avenue, and Fairway Crescent.
For those choosing the five-kilometre and 10-kilometre routes, runners followed Hayes Avenue to Lakewood Park and ran laps around the walking path.
Since 1999, the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run has raised over $1.5-million for cancer research.
