The Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Ministries Food Bank has received a massive food drive donation, thanks to an outstanding community response.
The Knights of Columbus Blessed Sacrament Council #1412 said the Salvation Army Food Bank in Chatham received $4,216 in financial donations and more than 350 boxes filled with groceries from a food drive this weekend to restock nearly empty shelves.
The September food drive surpassed the April food drive by 34 boxes, according to Council #1412.
Steve Brent, Program Co-Director with Knights of Columbus Blessed Sacrament Council #1412, noted the donations arrived at a critical time to help The Salvation Army respond to individuals and families in Chatham-Kent who are facing food insecurity and need immediate support.
"Our community answered the call when the need could not have been greater. Every grocery item, every dollar, and every volunteer hour helped replenish shelves that were nearly empty," said Brent. "We are deeply grateful to the shoppers, volunteers, store teams, and community partners who made this result possible."
The Council also thanks Food Basics and the Real Canadian Superstore for welcoming the campaign, and every volunteer who gave time during the three-day drive.
The Knights of Columbus Blessed Sacrament Council #1412 and The Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Ministries have had a longstanding partnership.
