The expansion of the Transit Windsor West End Transit Terminal is now complete.
The $3.7 million project includes the addition of new bus bays, an extended bus platform, new passenger shelters, bicycle parking, and a dedicated bus operator facility.
"All the buses who are driving through the west end will stop here for connections," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. "Having good facilities here both for the drivers who will stop here for a period of time but also for the passengers, in terms of accessibility, in terms of bike parking, in terms of some of the other amenities that are here, it's a big improvement."
Funding for the project was split between all levels of government. The federal government provided $1.4 million, and the provincial government contributed $1.2 million.
The East End Transit Terminal is expected to open later this year.
New automated fare collection technology will also be launched some time this year.
"Transit Windsor continues to invest in infrastructure, new routes, scheduling enhancements, and other service improvements that strengthen and modernize public transit for our customers. Investments in infrastructure are a key part of ensuring the system can meet the evolving needs of the community," said Jelena Payne, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)/ Commissioner of Economic Development.
