SPS deputy chief, civilian member suspended

Deputy Police Chief Ron Hansen and a civilian member of the Sarnia Police Service (SPS) have been suspended pending the outcome of an ongoing workplace investigation.

The SPS Board said the suspensions are not findings of misconduct.

"The board is aware that members of the community naturally have questions regarding these developments. However, in order to protect the integrity of the investigation and respect the rights of all individuals involved, the board will not be providing further details at this time," Board President Kelly Ash said in an emailed statement.

Ash confirmed to Sarnia News Today the two recent suspensions stem from information brought forth during an independent investigation launched in May regarding a workplace harassment complaint filed against Chief Derek Davis.

The board recently signed an agreement with Toronto-based Marshall Workplace Law to lead the investigation.

Meanwhile, Interim Chief Mike Federico will assume responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and administration of the SPS, starting on June 15.

In the latest episode of Beyond the Headlines, Josh Boyce spoke with Federico about his policing career.
