Thamesville to host CK's newest community garden

Ferguson Park will be the home of Chatham-Kent's next community garden.

The announcement came from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent (CK) on Monday. It follows a survey and CK-wide consultation about the interest in expanding community gardens, led by Chatham-Kent Public Health (CKPH).

"This new community garden reflects the strong interest and enthusiasm expressed by Thamesville residents," said Councillor Morena McDonald, who brought forward the motion to grow the program in CK.

The Food Policy Council is already working to bring the garden to life, so it will be ready for the 2026 planting season.

Chair of the Food Policy Council, Councillor Carmen McGregor, explained that projects like these are beneficial to any community.

"They enhance access to fresh, locally grown food while also creating inclusive spaces where residents can come together, share knowledge, and build stronger community connections," she said.

Residents interested in securing a plot in the Ferguson Park community garden are encouraged to reach out to the Chatham-Kent Food Policy Council Coordinator.

CKPH hopes to open more community gardens across Chatham-Kent, if there is sufficient interest and commitment from residents. Communities including Tilbury, Bothwell, and Blenheim have been identified as potential sites.
