'We will find you,' SPS warns Lambton College shooting suspect

A collaborative effort is underway across the province to find the remaining suspect linked to last week's deadly shooting at Lambton College.

Police are still looking for 24-year-old Kyaw "Chin" Doe in the murder of 20-year-old Dane Nisbet on April 10

Doe is wanted on charges of second-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis' message for Doe was to turn himself in.

"To Mr. Doe directly, I say that every time you go to sleep, know that there's a real possibility of being awakened to the light of a tactical team," Davis said. "You will be arrested."

Three people were arrested over the weekend: 23-year-old Oudom “Richard” Bun of London, 19-year-old Ava-Leigh Lightheart of Sarnia, and 19-year-old Johnathan Osborne-Walsh of Sarnia, who remain in custody.

Investigators held a media conference on Monday to provide details of last week's events.

It's alleged Doe got into a fight with several attendees at the school's pub night, which led to the involved groups going outside, where the shooting occurred. Police did not specify how many shots were fired in total.

Nisbet was pronounced dead at the hospital, while two young men, between the ages of 19 and 20, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Chief Ron Hansen said three suspects and an unnamed woman from Sarnia allegedly left the scene in Bun's Toyota Prius. The unnamed female demanded to get out of the vehicle and was let out at Highway 402 and Airport Road. Police said she will not be identified as she did not aid the suspects and is cooperating with investigators.

The three accused continued to London. Lightheart allegedly took possession of the gun after Doe was dropped off at home in London and was driven back to Sarnia, where she later gave the gun to Osborne-Walsh.

As part of the investigation, officers seized a Glock 45 pistol with an extended magazine.

"We are very confident in saying that is the weapon that was used in this incident," said Hansen.

It's believed the unregistered firearm was smuggled from the U.S.

"We are working currently to establish the history of the firearm through the provincial weapons enforcement unit, the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), and the FBI in the United States," Hansen said.

He said they are also relying on law enforcement partners across the province to help the Sarnia Police Service find and arrest Doe.

"We will find you, and you will be brought to justice," said Hansen.

Doe is known to have connections across Ontario and is believed to have ties to organized crime.

"However, we don't have any particular gang that he's definitely identified with," said Det. Sgt. Kent Jamieson. "It's something that remains under investigation."

Police said there's no information to indicate that the suspects knew the victims prior to Friday's tragic incident.

However, Doe and his group did attend other establishments in Sarnia before going to the Lions Den pub.

Hansen said police were called to Chuck's Roadhouse Bar & Grill about a disturbance at around 11 p.m. on Thursday.

"There was an individual who displayed a firearm and then one of the individuals smashed a window at Chuck's," Hansen said. "We sent all of our available resources."

One intoxicated person who allegedly smashed the window was found nearby but officers could not find the others involved.

"Our officers certainly did their best to try to gather any evidence that would allow us to find these people but we certainly couldn't go and stop every car, looking for somebody based on the information we had," said Hansen.

The investigation later revealed that the group went to Two Amigos before going to the school's pub night.

Hansen called the shooting a "cowardly act" that should not have happened.

Davis said this has been a difficult time for the community.

"Dane's murder has shaken the foundation of our city. The grief this has brought to Dane's family and his friends is unimaginable," Davis said. "The family is devastated."

Davis reiterated that the shooting did not target Nisbet and his friends or the college itself, and it could have happened anywhere.

The investigation is ongoing.

"As a police service, we have to strike a balance between ensuring that we do a thorough investigation, protecting the integrity of that investigation and also keeping people informed of what's going on," Davis said. "This case, and certainly many others in this modern time, see social media very predominantly as these are unfolding. Our top priority as an organization is to ensure that the family is kept informed first."

Members of the Nisbet family were present at Monday's conference and were visibly upset but did not speak.

Charges against the accused have not been proven in court.

Meanwhile, Lambton College is resuming regular operations in a phased approach. A memorial was set up for Nisbet outside the school.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help cover funeral costs and memorial expenses.
