Suspect arrested following vehicle theft and break-in at home in Hanover

One person has been arrested following a vehicle theft and residential break-in that occurred in Hanover.

According to the Hanover Police Service, on July 15 at 9 p.m. witnesses allegedly saw a male steal a vehicle on 7th Street. The man was then seen driving dangerously, failing to stop for multiple stop signs and driving at a high rate of speed.

The stolen vehicle eventually stopped at the intersection of 11th Avenue and 8th Street, with the suspect jumping out of the moving vehicle and running off. The vehicle proceeded to roll backwards and struck two other vehicles, causing damage.

Then, the suspect entered a nearby home through an unlocked rear door. He was confronted by the homeowners and then ran off into the backyard. He was apprehended there by Hanover Police officers.

As a result, the 26-year-old man of no fixed address remains in custody and has been charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop After an Accident, Break and Enter a Dwelling House to Commit an Indictable Offence and Three counts of Mischief Under $5,000.

The suspect will remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
