Hanover Police have charged a local man after an incident of intimate partner violence on Thursday night.
According to police, officers responded to a residence on 12th Avenue in the evening hours.
The investigation determined a woman was assaulted during an argument, not allowed to leave, and that items were damaged in the residence. She eventually was able to contact police and the suspect fled prior to police arriving.
Shortly after 2 a.m., officers located the male suspect operating an ATV on the community trails. He was arrested without incident and held for a bail hearing.
The 33-year-old Hanover man is charged with assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with release order.
Hanover Police Service reminds residents that intimate partner violence is a serious crime and anyone experiencing or concerned for the safety of someone they know is encouraged to contact their local police of jurisdiction immediately.
