Grey Bruce Public Health has issued a drug toxicity alert after three overdoses were reported this week, including one fatality.
The Health Unit says the overdoses were linked with smoking suspected crack cocaine in Owen Sound and Saugeen Shores. The non-fatal cases were responsive to naloxone, suggesting contamination with opioids.
"Grey Bruce Public Health extends sincere condolences to those affected by the loss of this loved one and community member," said a statement from the Health Unit.
The United Way is holding an event Saturday morning to honour those lost to opioid crisis.
GBPH encourages all people who use drugs to have naloxone on hand and a sober friend on hand who can administer it. Naloxone is available at pharmacies, participating community partners, and at Grey Bruce Public Health, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., no appointment needed.
The Health Unit also urges those who use illicit substances to get them tested by contacting Supportive Outreach Services at 519-379-8743.
