The Town of Saugeen Shores has officially exceeded its fundraising target for the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre, according to a report presented to council on March 23. Over a period of roughly two and a half years, the campaign brought in a total of $3,135,991, surpassing the original goal of $3 million.
“I never had any doubt that we would exceed the fundraising target for the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre. The success of the campaign reflects strong community support for a shared vision of health, wellness, and recreation in Saugeen Shores,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “Thank you to the many donors, sponsors, businesses, community groups, and residents whose generosity helped make this milestone possible.”
Fundraising efforts were carried out through both quiet solicitations and a broader public campaign, offering a range of ways for supporters to contribute, including major gifts, naming opportunities, and commemorative brick purchases. The facility itself was named in recognition of Brad and Kathy Pryde, whose leadership contribution helped launch the campaign and inspire further giving. In addition, the eight-lane competition pool bears the name of major donor Bruce Power.
All contributors are acknowledged on a donor wall located at the south entrance of the building, with recognition tiers ranging from Great Lakes of Giving for donations between $500,000 and $1 million, to Ripples of Kindness for gifts between $5,000 and $24,900.
Municipal officials extended their appreciation to everyone who supported the initiative, noting that the collective effort has helped create an inclusive and welcoming space that will serve the community well into the future.
Although the construction of the centre was fully financed through the town’s Legacy Reserve and development charges following council approval in December 2022, the fundraising campaign played an important role in helping to offset the overall financial impact of the project.
