Three of nine sex charges against CK doctor dismissed

Three charges have been withdrawn against a Chatham-Kent doctor facing multiple sex-related charges involving minors.

Dr. Robert Wismer had the charges withdrawn on Monday during the fourth day of his sexual assault trial in Chatham court.

Wismer's lawyer, Alan Gold, said his client was found not guilty on the three charges, one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference, and one count of invitation to sexual touching of persons under 16 years old because the prosecution was not producing any evidence on those charges involving one of the children. Dr. Wismer is still facing two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, and two counts of invitation to sexual touching of persons under 16 years old involving another child.

The trial centres around allegations that Wismer and a complainant played “games” alone involving a "crotchless" bathing suit during a pool party with Wismer’s children at the doctor’s house and whether the children may have been coached on what to say to police.

On Monday, Gold also questioned one of the investigating officers about why his notes were redacted.

The sexual assault trial continues on October 30.

Wismer was initially charged in October 2024 with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference, and three counts of invitation to sexual touching of persons under 16 years old.

The charges stem from alleged incidents between August 29, 2024, and October 12, 2024.

A publication ban protects the identity of the two children complainants and their parents, who have previously testified.
