A fire has caused $1 million in property damage to Mike's Place restaurant and bar in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent (CK) firefighters responded to the establishment on Queen Street just after 2 a.m. Tuesday Morning. Firefighters immediately began fire suppression efforts after heavy smoke, and flames were seen coming from the building.
CK Police Services, CK Fire and Rescue, and the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
No injuries have been reported.
The restaurant posted on social media that it will be closed until it is rebuilt.
"We're not done yet," said Buckler. "We got a lot of life left in us."
She added that the restaurant has been a staple in Chatham for 48 years and the rallied support from the community has been humbling.
Although they plan to reopen, the well-being of their staff is the current priority.
CK Fire and Rescue Services thanked CK police, CK EMS, Entegrus, Enbridge, and Public Works for their help on scene.
Queen Street was closed at Tweedsmuir Avenue, but it has since reopened.
