Rainy weather did not slow down the Chatham-Kent Terry Fox Runs.
On September 20, hundreds of people throughout the municipality participated in the annual run focused on fundraising for cancer research.
Physical runs were held in Wallaceburg, Dresden, Blenheim, and Tilbury. Areas like Chatham had a virtual presence focused on donations.
Tilbury had some big money raisers, with one 12-year-old girl and her team raising roughly $11,600 just by themselves.
Even though people are still participating, local organizers note that the number of runners has dwindled throughout the years.
"As far as Tilbury goes, the last few years have been about the same, participant-wise, but I know 20 some odd years ago, there was like 371 participants," said Mark Authier, Co-Chair of the Tilbury Terry Fox Run.
But that hasn't slowed down the fundraiser.
"We're still raising close to the same amount of money. It's just more sponsors than individuals," continued Authier.
The Terry Fox Foundation has yet to release the final numbers, but they estimate that Wallaceburg raised around $37,000, roughly $34,000 was raised in Tilbury, and Dresden raised around $40,000.
Final numbers will be posted around the end of March 2027, with fundraising efforts still active.
