New name running to be Chatham councillor

A new name has been put forward ahead of Chatham-Kent's (CK) municipal election.

Dustin 'Duddee' Gawne is running to be one of two Ward 7 councillors, representing people living in the north east part of Chatham.

He told CK News Today that he decided to run due to concerns that the local drug crisis is only getting worse, something he has a personal connection with, being an ex-addict.

"Is there a real solution for it? I don't know. But I do know that I'd like to work diligently with the community to help with it," explained Gawne.

Along with helping those addicted to drugs, Gawne wants the next council to address issues that hit closer to home. He specifically talked about improving infrastructure, from streets to sidewalks.

"I would just like to help fix some of the things," he added.

When asked why he believes he's the best person for the job, Gawne mentioned that this job would have 100 per cent of his attention as he hasn't been able to work for around 10 years after being in a serious car accident. He also explained that anyone who votes for him is voting for someone who just wants to help others.

"I want to help our community, help our neighbours, I want to help whoever it is that needs the help and wants the help," he said.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
