The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) reported that an EF0 tornado did touch down in Chatham-Kent when thunderstorms swept through the region early Friday morning.
EF0 tornadoes are on the weaker end of the scale, with wind speeds ranging from 90 to 130 kilometres per hour.
Researchers said one of these tornadoes touched down in Croton, causing damage to a farm outbuilding and a number of trees. The NTP reported that the vortex path was tracked through corn fields there.
Croton wasn't the only spot to face some wild weather. Two EF0 downbursts were also confirmed to have taken place in Walpole Island and Blenheim.
The damage was mostly limited to trees, as well as shingles being pulled from houses and commercial buildings.
Walpole Island also saw a communications tower collapse as a result of the storm.
Power outages were also reported following the storm, affecting thousands of residents in Chatham-Kent.
