A father and daugher running duo are sharing their story about their experience running the Boston marathon.
Brian and Victoria Horrobin of Wallaceburg took part in the race on Monday. They were not the only runners from Chatham-Kent who participated. Others, including father and daughter Scott and Brooke Macleod of Chatham, also ran the race.
CK News Today spoke with the Horrobin duo, about their experience in Boston.
Victoria started by saying that conditions couldn't have been better.
"We had perfect weather which really made it extra good, and just seeing a really iconic race. I think it's every runners dream," she said.
For Victoria, it was her first time running in the famous race. For her father, it was his third.
Brian ran in 2015 and 2018, but he says his luck was much better this time around.
"I was sick the day of the race in 2015, I limped through it. (In) 2018 I requalified to back there, and the weather was the worst on record... three degrees Celsius, 40 kilometre an hour headwinds, I practically froze to death. So this was a much better experience this time around," he laughed.
When asked about how it felt to represent Chatham-Kent, Brian credited the community of runners in the area.
"It puts Chatham-Kent on the map a little bit. People forget that we have good runners in our community. There's a number of others from Chatham-Kent that also ran in this race, and have in years past as well," he noted.
The Horrobin's had a fun time running together, but for Victoria she accomplished a milestone.
"I PB'ed (personal best) so I'm really happy about that. It's a tough course to PB on," she stated.
For Victoria this accomplishment brought her great joy, considering she managed to push through.
"I was over the moon. I hit the wall at 32 (km), but I was able to hang in there, and the crowds and the energy were just ecstatic... I'm really grateful and happy with the results," she continued.
Victoria had the fastest time out of the Chatham-Kent runners, finishing with a net time of 3:02:02. Brian's net time clocked at 3:47:54 according to the official results.
As for the other Chatham-based duo, Scott Macleod achieved a time of 3:11:50, while his daughter Brooke finished at 3:34:08.
