The Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) Seed Library is back.
Starting March 20th, local residents with a library card can check out seed packages from one of the 11 library branches.
"So the unique thing about a seed library, of course, is you "borrow" the seeds, but you keep them, you plant them, you don't have to bring them back to the library like you do our books or DVD's," said Sarah Hart Coatsworth, Manager of Community Engagement for the CKPL.
Thirty-five different types of seeds are available to borrow this year.
"Vegetable seeds, flower seeds, and also herb seeds, so parsley, oregano, and things like that," said Hart Coatsworth. "Tomatoes are really popular, green and yellow beans have been very popular, and flowers, of course, are always popular. We have some sunflower seeds and zinnia seeds.
Since the CKPL Grows Seed Library began 10 years ago, over 20,000 seed packages have been checked out.
Residents are encouraged to save seeds from their gardens this year and donate them back to the seed library to be used again next season.
Hart Coatsworth added that seeds are just one of the non-traditional items residents can borrow from the library.
"We have puzzles, we have park passes. We have story kits and play packs for kids, which in the winter, there's a play pack that has snowshoes in it."
