It's the end of the roast for a CK butcher shop

A popular butcher shop south of Chatham is closing to make way for the new Highway 401 interchange at Bloomfield Road.

Buis Beef posted on social media that it will be closing its retail store on April 4, after almost two decades of operation, because the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario is expropriating a parcel of land at Seventh Line and Bloomfield Road.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share after 16 incredible years, Buis Beef will be closing its doors April 4th, 2026, due to the MTO expropriation," the social media post read. "What began as a business became something far greater than we could have ever imagined. Buis Beef has been a place of familiar faces, great conversations, friendships, laughter, and community."

Buis Beef is a fourth-generation, mixed farming operation with vegetable crops, field crops, and a herd of 350 cows.

The owners and staff said they're "deeply grateful for the 16 unforgettable years" they have shared with their customers, adding that the memories and connections made will always be treasured.

"It has been early mornings, long days, and countless memories we will always carry with us," wrote the owners and staff. "To our customers, friends, and community, thank you. Thank you for your loyalty, your kindness, and supporting local. Thank you for stopping in, for sharing your stories, and for making Buis Beef something special."

Those with gift certificates for Buis Beef are encouraged to use them before the retail store closes on April 4.

Construction of the interchange is expected to begin this year and continue until 2028.
