Essex Powerlines opens applications for bursaries

Essex Power Corporation has begun offering bursaries to students seeking careers in energy and utilities.

The application period has opened for the annual Powering Future Leaders Bursary.

"Investing in education is an investment in our community’s future,” said Essex Power Corporation President and CEO John Avdoulos. "Through the Powering Future Leaders Bursary, we’re proud to support students who are pursuing careers that will help power our region forward."

There will be five $1,000 bursaries awarded this year. Four of them will be awarded to graduating high school students who live within the Essex Powerlines coverage area, and one will be awarded to a student from Caldwell First Nation.

Applying students are encouraged to enter a post-secondary program, such as Powerline Technician training or a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) program.

For the general bursary, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation, a letter of acceptance from an accredited postsecondary institution, be enrolled in a program dealing with one of the aforementioned disciplines, and provide proof of enrolment before bursary funds are awarded.

Those applying for the Caldwell First Nation bursary must submit the same required documentation and also self-identify as a member of Caldwell First Nation, subject to verification.

The deadline is May 29.

Application details and forms are available at the Essex Power official website or by email.
