ENWIN Earth Day Tree Planting Celebration coming up

Not this Sunday, but next, residents can celebrate spring by planting trees with ENWIN and the Essex Region Conservation Authority.

Sunday, April 26, is the ENWIN Earth Day Tree Planting Celebration.

"ERCA has hosted an annual tree planting in the City of Windsor since 1999," said Director of Communications Danielle Breault Stuebing. "Nearly 40,000 trees have been planted in the City of Windsor as a result of this event. We are so grateful to ENWIN, which has supported this event for many years, and has now made a three-year commitment as its title sponsor to ensure the Windsor-Essex community can continue to plant trees for years to come."

The event, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., will take place along the Ganatchio Trail, near Wyandotte Street East and Florence Avenue.

Opening ceremonies are at 10 a.m., and more than 2,100 trees will be planted.

Those who go are encouraged to bring their own shovel since there will be a limited supply of tree planting tools available.

Groups of ten or more are encouraged to sign up as a Green Team to receive a certificate of participation. The deadline is Sunday online.

Parking is available at the Riverside Kiwanis Park - Pump Track parking lot, McHugh Park parking lot, and various public parking lots along Riverside Drive East.
