The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) has reported a significant reduction in immunization-related high school suspensions.
The health unit reported that as of Tuesday morning, 99 per cent of students in Grades 9 through 12 are fully compliant with the terms of the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA).
There are currently 221 secondary students under suspension.
"This represents a notable reduction in suspensions compared to the previous year, reflecting the strong Windsor-Essex County community dedication to keeping students protected from vaccine-preventable disease," read a statement from the health unit.
High school students who have been suspended are required to provide the health unit with any missing immunization records or a valid exemption.
Once all updated records are received, the student can return to class right away, and their name will be removed from the suspension list by the next business day.
If you have missing shots or records, contact your primary care provider, who can fax the information to the health unit. The health unit offers vaccine clinics for those who are missing vaccinations, with complete information available on the WECHU website.
The health unit also reported on Tuesday morning that just 18 elementary school students remain on the suspended list.
