Final days to weigh in on major Highway 40 expansion in Sarnia

Time is running out to share your thoughts on the widening on Highway 40 from Indian Road to 0.6 kilometres north of Wellington Street in Sarnia.

A Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) is available for public comment until Sunday, November 8.

A Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study has recommended several improvements for the seven kilometre widening, from two to four lanes.

Dividing the highway with a 15 metre median and intersection upgrades at Indian Road, Plank Road, Confederation Street/Line, and Wellington Street are suggested.

It's also recommended McGregor Side Road North and South intersections at Highway 40, and Chester Street at Confederation Street close and a noise barrier be constructed along the west side of Highway 40 between Confederation and Wellington Streets.

Witten comments can be submitted through the project's website www.highway40widening.ca

Once the commenting period closes, project managers will use the information to undertake a detail design of a recommended plan, then proceed to construction once that is approved.

Meanwhile, construction of the new Highway 40 overpass continues.

The new bridge has been paved and Confederation Street was closed from Highway 40 to Chester Street late last month to accommodate work near the intersection.
