Community fundraising goal in reach for Bright's Grove Library project

Construction is progressing well on the much-anticipated Bright's Grove Library expansion project, and the community fundraising goal is well within reach.

Donations are still being accepted toward the project and, as of Monday, over $900,000 had been raised towards the $1 million goal.

The estimated $5.9-million renovation includes a 7,000 square foot library expansion, an 800 square foot community room, and the preservation of the historic Faethorne House which dates back to the 1870s.

Gallery in the Grove is being relocated to the main floor and activity rooms on the upper floors can be accessed via a lift, and there will be enhanced technology and digital learning spaces for all ages.

The new library space will be large, modern and fully accessible with dedicated spaces such as a children’s section, maker spaces, audio-visual technology, and study rooms.

The City of Sarnia's September building stats included a $5.35 million permit for work at the library at 2618 Hamilton Road.

The work is being undertaken by London-based K&L Construction Ltd.

The site was closed over the summer and preliminary site preparation work started in July. The facility was expected to be closed for about 14 months.

You can give your support online, in person, or through a pledge to support the Bright’s Grove Library Expansion Project.

Those donating $2,500 or more will have the opportunity to be included on a donor recognition wall. Naming opportunities are available for larger donations.

Donations of up to $14,999 can be made online anytime, or in-person at City Hall during regular business hours.

In person gifts can be made with cash, cheque, debit and credit, and cheques should be made out to The City of Sarnia with ‘Bright’s Grove Library Expansion’ in the subject line.

For donations over $15,000 and above; naming-right opportunities; pledges for support; installment contributions; or in-memorial gifts, reach out to the committee to discuss your contribution at [email protected].

The Sarnia Community Foundation said it was instrumental in facilitating a $100,000 contribution from the Sue Park Foundation, marking the very first donation received for this project.
