Petrolia accepts new veteran banner applications

The Town of Petrolia and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 216 are preparing to honour past and present veterans this fall through the annual banner program.

Individuals and businesses can sponsor a memorial banner for $285 plus HST, with proceeds supporting the Legion.

Marketing and Special Events Associate Thera Wagner said last year, 11 additional banners were ordered and the Legion received $1,200.

The program returned in 2025, after launching in 2023, because people had reached out to the town.

"Three years ago we started this program, we had 21 purchased that year, but those ones are actually up for renewal this year," Wagner said. "So if they all renew, we'll have 32 altogether."

The banners will be displayed throughout Petrolia from mid-October until after Remembrance Day. They will be kept for three years before being returned to the sponsor.

Wagner said the program acts as a simple gesture to honour veterans.

"It's very important to keep this going and show our respect and our gratitude towards our veterans," she said.

The banners are double-sided and in full colour.

Banners can be ordered at Petrolia Town Hall Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Wagner said sponsors will need to bring a photo and the information to be included on the banner. Questions can be emailed to Wagner at [email protected].

Applications will be accepted until August 17.
