Sting add tough, skilled blueliner in first round of OHL Draft

The Sarnia Sting have added some punch on defence with the selection of Adrian Sgro fourth overall in the 2026 Ontario Hockey League draft.

The 16-year-old Alliston native was the captain of the Vaughan Kings U16 AAA team in 2025-26. He scored 10 goals and added 21 assists in 33 games played, and also racked up 100 penalty minutes.

Sgro stands at six feet tall and 185 pounds and is a left handed shot.

OHL Central Scouting described him as "one of, if not the best skater in this age group," noting that "he makes the game look very easy and effortless" and possesses "unbelievable composure with the puck under pressure."

Former Sting Scout Kyle Craner's father Randy announced the Sting's pick live on FloHockey.

He was joined on stage by Kyle's brother Joel, and Sting 2025 first round draft pick Brenner Lammens.

Kyle passed away due to brain cancer in September 2025.

This year's OHL draft is taking place live in person in Kingston.

Rounds two through 15 will be held on Saturday.
