Dane Nisbet laid to rest

Pallbearers for Dane Nisbet wore black jerseys with the 20-year-old's name embroidered on the back as they made their way into Temple Baptist Church for his funeral.

Nisbet died on April 10 after he was shot outside of a Lambton College bar.

Hundreds of people steadily filed inside the Quinn Drive church on the sombre Friday morning.

Those in attendance included Councillors Bill Dennis, Adam Kilner, and Mayor Mike Bradley. Kilner, who is also a minister at Dunlop Central United Church, offered his condolences to the Nisbet family.

"We will continue to pray for them. We will continue as councillors and the mayor to think about this family," Kilner. "Just as everybody else in the public, we're going to look to continue to be a supportive presence."

An emotional Bradley said the flag at city hall has been lowered to half-staff.

"It's been extremely difficult for the whole community of Sarnia-Lambton. A tragedy that should never have happened," said Bradley. "We've come today, to see with overwhelming numbers, to honour this young man."

Sarnia police officers stood at the corner of Quinn Drive and Barclay Drive, saluting, as the Nisbet family drove into the church parking lot. The vehicles were escorted by a Sarnia Police Service vehicle and a fire truck.

A procession was later held from the church to Lakeview Cemetery, where internment was scheduled to take place.

A GoFundMe page set up to support the Nisbet family with funeral costs and memorial expenses raised over $98,000 as of 12 p.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for 24-year-old Kyaw "Chin" Doe, who's accused in Nisbet's death. He's also wanted on two counts of attempted murder, as two other young men were injured in the shooting.

Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers and the Sarnia Police Service Board are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to Doe's arrest.

On April 13, the Sarnia Police Service provided an update on the homicide investigation, urging Doe to turn himself in.

Three other people have been charged in the investigation.
