The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is reminding travellers to plan ahead for the Easter long weekend.
Those going to visit friends and family are recommended to prepare in advance by having all documents readily available when crossing the border, be prepared to declare, and to check wait times at crossings.
The CBSA said the Monday of a holiday long weekend is typically the busiest day.
If you are unsure if any of the items you plan to bring with you on your travels aren't allowed, it's recommended you ask a CBSA officer by calling or checking the government of Canada website.
If you have gifts for family and friends, make sure they're unwrapped or in gift bags, in border services officers need to inspect the contents.
Canadians are reminded when it comes to declaring anything you bought while away, personal exemptions allow you to bring certain amounts of goods back into the country without paying regular duty and taxes.
But, you should make sure you know the value of what you are bringing back in Canadian dollars and have your receipts available.
And, if you have any children travelling with you for whom you don’t have legal custody, the CBSA advises you to bring a consent letter from the parent or legal guardian authorizing you to travel with the child.
