Former Durham player Donskov takes top Team Canada coaching role

Hockey Canada has promoted Misha Donskov into one of the top coaching roles in the country.

The 48-year-old will serve as head coach for Canada’s men’s team and national junior team at three major events through the 2026-27 season, including the 2026 World Championship and the 2027 World Juniors.

"Misha is a world-class coach," said Hockey Canada senior vice-president Scott Salmond. "We are fortunate to have him...to put us in a position to win multiple gold medals."

Donskov, who was named vice-president of hockey operations last year, brings a long resume that includes NHL stops with the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars, along with an OHL championship during his time with the London Knights.

The promotion marks another major step for Donskov, who also has ties to Midwestern Ontario, having spent time playing for the Durham Huskies early in his playing career.

"Representing Canada on the international stage is a huge honour," Donskov said in a statement. "I look forward to...building teams and programs that give us the best chance to win gold."
