Hanover man accused of driving on sidewalk, other dangerous maneuvers

A 26-year-old man is facing charges after a pickup truck was spotted passing vehicles in a dangerous manner and driving along a sidewalk in Hanover.

Hanover police received several reports about the truck that was towing a trailer around 10:30 p.m. on May 28. Witnesses told police the pickup was being driven at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles dangerously.

"While on 10th Street, the male driver lost control, almost striking another vehicle and drove along the sidewalk before continuing westbound towards the downtown," police said.

Officers determined the vehicle's plates had been reported stolen from Dufferin County. They were seized, along with the pickup truck, when investigators searched a home on 11th Street.

A 26-year-old Hanover man was arrested. He is charged with driving while prohibited, dangerous driving, driving while under suspension, and possession of stolen property. Police said he has been remanded into custody on charges from another jurisdiction.

Police credited the witnesses who promptly reported the incident for providing information that led to the arrest and seizure of the suspect vehicle.
