Ontario is investing $14.98 million to build a new Catholic School in Mildmay.
On Saturday, Huron-Bruce Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Lisa Thompson announced the funding. The grant is part of a $22 billion investment over 10 years from Ontario to build, renew, and improve schools throughout the province.
The new school, Sacred Heart Catholic School, will be a part of the Bruce-Grey Catholic School Board (BGCDSB). The new building will have 245 elementary student spaces, as well as 39 licensed childcare areas.
"The new build is based on input from the community and an obvious need due to population growth forecasts," said Thompson.
The new school will be built at 8 Vincent Street in Mildmay.
"As our region experiences incredible growth, this $14.98 million replacement school and child care centre will provide our families with the space and resources that will support them to flourish," Chair of the BGCDSB Lori Di Castri said.
This year, the provincial government is investing $1.6 billion in 79 school projects throughout the province, including a new high school being built in Kincardine and a public elementary school in Port Elgin.
