The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate after a fatal police involved shooting left one person dead in Paisley.
The province's police watchdog said in a release that throughout the day on Saturday, February 21, a 48-year-old man had allegedly committed multiple motor vehicle thefts and residential break-and-enters in several jurisdictions, including the theft of a firearm.
Police made several attempts to locate him before finding him driving a stolen vehicle. A tire deflation device was deployed, and the man ran from the scene.
He was later found in the area of Sideroad 13 and Bruce-Saugeen Townline. Outside of a residence, an interaction with police led to an officer shooting his firearm, and the man was hit.
The man was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
