NDP leadership candidate from Lucknow will join debate next week

Federal NDP Leadership Candidate Tony McQuail of Lucknow is preparing for the leadership debate in Vancouver.

McQuail managed to meet all of the fundraising and support requirements to stay in the race.

"I'm honoured and humbled by the kind of support we've received," said McQuail. "We haven't raised anywhere near the money that that some have and we didn't intend to. We didn't expect to, but we've we've raised enough and we've had enough people say yeah we want you on the ballot, we want you there."

However, he said the work is not done. McQuail stressed they must continue fundraising to support their campaign, with a leadership debate in Vancouver coming up next Thursday. He's feeling optimistic as his ideas gain momentum.

"My message of cooperation and collaboration and working to build coalitions, isn't just about political parties. It's about as a society when we face challenges that are very serious challenges," McQuail explained. "How do we figure out how to work together across our differences? And my message has been, we need to throw our arms wide." The regenerative farmer added that we need to learn to work together across our differences, including everyone.

The NDP will select its next leader at the Winnipeg Convention held from March 27-29, 2026. The other candidates are Rob Ashton, Tanille Johnston, Avi Lewis and Heather McPherson
