CK seniors centres get another cash injection to keep seniors active

Two seniors centres in Chatham-Kent are getting another funding boost from the Government of Ontario.

The Thamesville Happy Club is receiving an additional $8,750, while the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre will get another $13,750 to help seniors stay socially connected closer to home.

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault said this third quarter installment will help deliver in-person and virtual programs that help our seniors and older adults aged 55 and older keep fit, healthy, active, and socially connected to their communities.

"Today’s investment shows our continued support for seniors in our riding,” said Pinsonneault. “Seniors Active Living Centres are vital for bringing our seniors together and keeping them fit, active, healthy, socially connected and close to home."

The $22,500 is on top of the nearly $95,000 received by those centres in the second quarter.

The province noted it has progressively increased annual funding for Seniors Active Living Centre programs due to their overwhelming success so more communities can meet the needs of Ontario’s seniors with better services and activities at the local level.

“This year, we have expanded our investment in Seniors Active Living Centres, to provide more opportunities to access programs and supports for seniors,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “Our government strongly supports Seniors Active Living Centre programs to reduce social isolation and protect community life for Ontario’s aging population.”

The province said there are now 416 Seniors Active Living Centres province-wide compared to 299 a little over a year ago.
