Ex-CK police officer's sexual assault trial set for next year

A former Chatham-Kent (CK) police officer accused of sexual assault will be going to trial in September of 2027.

Ken Miller, 55, has been charged after an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) with one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual exploitation, and one count of breach of trust in connection to sexual assault complaints that are alleged to have occurred in 2009.

The court in Chatham heard on Wednesday that Miller's trial is set for September 8 to 17, 2027, but not before an application hearing in June and July 2027 to determine if private records of the complainant or witness can be used to challenge their credibility and support the defence at trial.

The SIU previously reported that it was contacted by Chatham-Kent police on September 8, 2025, after a woman came forward to report incidents that occurred while she was a minor and involved an on-duty constable.

It's not the first time Miller has been charged with sexual assault. He was also charged with sexual assault in 2018 in connection with an incident that took place in 2014, also in 2017 in connection with an incident in 2013, and in 2016 in relation to an incident that happened in 2015. He also spent approximately two months in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of breach of trust in connection with the 2015 incident.

Miller resigned from the Chatham-Kent Police Service in March 2018, shortly before he was sentenced to 60 days in jail following his guilty plea on the breach of trust charge.

The SIU arrested Miller in April and released him with several conditions, including that he refrain from communicating directly or indirectly with the victim.
