Joint police response leads to quick arrest in Walpole Island armed robbery

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a morning armed robbery at Walpole Island First Nation.

At around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, members of the Walpole Island Police Service (WIPS) along with Lambton County OPP, the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit were called to a report of an armed robbery at a business on Tecumseh Road.

Police said an individual had attended the business, brandished a firearm and ran off with undisclosed product.

The suspect was located a short time later and arrested.

Nicholas Riley, 42, of Walpole Island First Nation is charged with armed robbery and two counts of failure to comply with undertaking.

Riley was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody with an October 9 court date.
