CK chosen for potential large clean-energy manufacturing project

Chatham-Kent (CK) could soon be home to a major clean-energy manufacturing project.

That's according to the municipality, which says it's been chosen as the destination of choice by the company Canadian Energies.

According to Canadian Energies, the project would focus on solar energy, battery energy storage, and AI-focused storage. This facility would also be North America's first production platform for domestically sourced sodium-ion batteries.

"This project would represent the largest single investment ever made in Chatham-Kent," said CK mayor Darrin Canniff. "We're proud of what our community has to offer. The work we have been doing to grow and promote CK has earned us recognition on the global stage for investment."

The project is set to be discussed over the next two days at the Canadian Investment Summit being hosted by Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The municipality explained that support from the federal and provincial governments would be needed for the project to happen. Any municipal decisions would need to be approved by CK's council.
