More Chatham-Kent communities asked to conserve water
More residents and businesses connected to the Chatham water system are being asked to conserve water over the next few days.
The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (PUC) says it's because of work to repair a major water transmission line.
Customers in Dresden, Thamesville, Grande Pointe, Pain Court, Dover Centre, Mitchell's Bay, Tupperville, Eberts, Jeannette's Creek, and Kent Bridge are asked to minimize non-essential water use through Friday, August 28.
Chatham residents were asked to conserve water earlier this week as repairs are currently being done on a major water transmission line along Charing Cross Road, which supplies the Chatham Water Treatment Plant.
The request is a precautionary measure aimed at reducing demand on the system and maintaining adequate water supplies while the repair work is completed.
The PUC said residents can continue using water normally for essential needs, including drinking, cooking and bathing.
However, customers are being asked to postpone non-essential activities, including watering lawns and gardens, washing vehicles or outdoor surfaces, filling or topping up swimming pools and hot tubs, and other activities that require significant amounts of water.
There is currently no impact on the safety or quality of drinking water, and residents are not expected to experience an interruption in water service.
The Chatham-Kent officials thanked residents and businesses for their cooperation and said further updates will be provided as the work progresses.
