A 35-year-old woman has been charged for allegedly causing a fire that damaged multiple homes in Chatham.
The blaze broke out Tuesday morning on Park Street.
According to Chatham-Kent (CK) police, it started in a vacant home and spread to two neighbouring homes.
Four people were reportedly inside one of the homes when it caught fire, but fortunately, each was able to escape without any injuries.
Police reviewed video surveillance footage from the area, which they said showed a woman leaving the vacant home before the fire erupted. The woman was allegedly seen on video at the same property in the morning.
Officers were able to confirm her identity using the footage and witness statements. She was arrested after fire investigators determined the fire was set intentionally.
She's since been charged with arson to cause property damage and arson with disregard to human life.
She remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing.
