After hearing residents' concerns at Chatham-Kent (CK) council, the relocation of ARTspace has been halted for up to two years.
At Monday night's meeting, four people were in person to give their opinion on the ARTspace relocation to the Chatham Cultural Centre.
They discussed how this space is beneficial to local and emerging artists while also pointing out its artistic footprint in the CK area.
"There are costs associated with maintaining ARTspace, but there are also costs to diminishing our cultural infrastructure," said CK Arts Council Vice Chair Vicki McFarland.
When the discussion was brought before council, Councillor Morena McDonald proposed to pause the relocation for up to an additional two years.
Her motion also asked that alternatives be developed in consultation with a newly developed community advisory group, including options for updated management models.
McDonald's motion was passed unanimously.
