CK taking steps to help residents with storm debris

The storm that blew through Chatham-Kent (CK) on Friday has prompted the municipality to offer storm debris collection services.

The storm had strong winds, with residents reporting damage due to the wind and flooding.

To help residents combat the fallen foliage, the municipality of CK has announced a temporary increase in yard waste disposal and curbside brush collection.

"These additional services are intended to help residents safely and efficiently dispose of storm-related debris while allowing municipal crews to respond to the increased demand," said the municipality.

The Harwich Leaf and Yard Depot will operate its normal hours Tuesday to Friday, but will now also open Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

People living in Blenheim and Erieau will see the collection over the coming weeks.

A one-time brush collection is being offered to Shrewsbury, Erie Beach, and Cedar Springs residents as well. CK asks that brush be put out by the curb no later than Sunday, July 19.

The municipality asks residents to place limbs no bigger than eight inches at the curb.

Crews are continuing clean-up efforts, and CK thanked residents for their patience.
