A 77-year-old Wallaceburg man will trek across the province to raise awareness and money for kids battling cancer.
Don Wells, a cancer survivor, is riding a motor scooter from Walpole Island to Parliament Hill in Ottawa as part of Don's Journey of Hope for Cancer.
"I like to be honest with the people and do the best I can for the kids that need it more than anybody else. It's not about us, it's about the children," said Wells.
He has completed several tours in the past, including one from Golden, British Columbia to Wallaceburg back in 2017, but Wells told CK News Today that this will be his last journey after being diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer.
"I'm going to do this last final tour on June 29th, on my 77th birthday," Wells explained. "I decided to do this final tour to help all these kids."
He was inspired while completing radiation therapy in London.
"When I was down in London, and I seen some of these kids and some of these adults, and what they're going through is just awful," Wells said.
Don's Journey of Hope for Cancer will consist of four or five people travelling 706 kilometres, avoiding major roadways and highways.
So far, Wells has raised roughly $5,000, which will be donated to the Children's Health Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The convoy will start its journey at the Walpole Island Arena around 10 a.m. on Monday.
