UPDATE: CK council approves Erieau kayak launch

Erieau will soon have a kayak launch.

Chatham-Kent's (CK) council met on Monday, where members discussed the much-wanted ramp.

Back in 2023, council approved spending $255,000 to help start the process of creating two launches. One would be at the end of Third Street, with the other at the end of Stass Lane.

To date, neither launch has been constructed.

After reviewing public feedback, the council is moving forward with the Third Street launch and scrapping the Stass Lane launch.

Several issues were raised about the potential Stass Lane location, specifically a lack of vehicle turnaround space and suitable parking options.

Not all the feedback for the Third Street location was positive, with some raising concerns about increased traffic and a lack of parking. The municipality's administration said these shouldn't be an issue, especially parking, as the plan to create the launch includes adding three new parking spots.

There are no expected costs for the project at this time, as it needs to go through the bidding process first.

The motion was approved unanimously.
