An engineer from Dresden is hoping to be Chatham-Kent's (CK) next Ward 4 Councillor.
John Cummings is running in the upcoming election, aiming to be the lone representative for communities like Dresden, Mitchell's Bay, and Pain Court.
He told CK News Today there needs to be some change in the current council's priorities.
"The results aren't as successful as the taxpayers would like," said Cummings.
To him, the biggest issue that needs to be addressed is irresponsible spending. Cummings explained that the next council needs to focus specifically on the needs of the people.
"The taxpayers of Chatham-Kent, their family incomes aren't going up, but all of their expenses are going up. I would work with staff and the rest of council to increase the effectiveness of the services that we already have, while not increasing our costs," he added.
Cummings explained that better training, policies, and the use of equipment would go a long way toward improving current services.
Other issues he would like to help address are the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis and the increasing number of renovictions.
When asked why people should vote for him, Cummings noted that his life experience would be a great benefit to the municipality.
"I've been an engineer for 37 years working with municipal, provincial, and federal governments on massive, complicated projects," he explained.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
