Four emergency workers in Chatham are being recognized for saving the life of a 21-year-old woman.
On October 6, 2025, Chatham-Kent (CK) police received information from the Waterloo Regional Police Service about a woman posting messages on social media about taking her own life.
Very little information was provided, just a ping of the woman's phone that included a large potential search area.
Emergency Communications Operators Caitlyn Luno and Brook-Lyn Phelan were able to pinpoint her address, names of family members, and possible vehicles she could be using by reviewing cell phone records, police records, and other sources.
The two relayed this information to Constables Thomas Michaud and Jeremy Weedon, who later found the woman in medical distress. She was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, where she would later recover.
"During this high-stress, dynamic situation, ECO Luno and ECO Phelan demonstrated exceptional professionalism and focus. Together, they were able to obtain essential information that was broadcast to the responding officers. Their actions provided key information to Constables Michaud and Weedon, which resulted in a quick and successful outcome that no doubt saved this 21-year-old female's life," said CK Police Chief Kirk Earley in a letter recapping the situation.
The four emergency workers will receive a Chief's Commendation at the next CK Police Board meeting.
