Carleton picked first overall in WNBA Expansion Draft

Chatham's Bridget Carleton is headed to Portland.

The Fire made her the number-one pick in the WNBA Expansion Draft.

The 28-year-old started all 44 games in Minnesota last season, averaging 6.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2 assists to help the Lynx in their run to the semi-finals.

"Throughout this process, our priority was finding players who embody effort, selflessness, and a commitment to team success," said Fire General Manager Vanja Cernivec. "Each player we selected reflects the culture of what we are building, and the style of play we want the Fire to represent from day one."

Portland will open its inaugural WNBA season on Saturday, May 9th.
